Well, I knew it couldn't be true that this blender is 'all-metal.'I was right. . .
The blades are metal, and they attach to a plastic piece with a rubber/silicon gasket. the bottom piece may be chrome, but it feels like plastic underneath. The knob is plastic with chrome, too. .There- it's not all metal. The motor chassis/housing might be metal.
The gears that connect the motor to the blade assembly are not hard plastic or metal, either. These are actually more rubbery, not quite hard rubber. I assume this design element is for improved grip and more resilient material. We'll see if it grows brittle over time. . .

Why are blenders so expensive nowadays? It seems like the cheap ones don't work, and the expensive ones aren't much better!

I like Hamilton Beach stuff- it's clever and not as inflated as other more expensive and not-necessarily-better manufacturers out there. But this one ain't it.

I just made smoothie #1 with this thing, and it is smooth. I blended 1/2 a bag of frozen strawberries with 3 oranges. I was initially frustrated with the blender's performance. Then I added some water, and BANG. It blended very well and very quickly.
The 500 watt motor is better than some other 500 watt blenders I've used. It's also not as loud as some- but it is loud.

I like the simple dial: low, high or pulse (high).I never used or understood the gradations of a blender, anyway. What's the difference between frappe and liquefy? Who cares?!
The lid seals well enough. I filled it with soap and blended before and and after making smoothie #1. The lid did not leak. That is truly the most important aspect of a blender, IMHO.

Bottom Line- powerful, simple, and attractive blender that works well on liquid ingredients. I would not trust this to do much to dry or frozen ingredients without any liquid. I have not tried to crush ice with this.

REVISION * 1 week later*
I have made smoothies and protein shakes with this. The protein powder stuff gets stuck in bottom, forcing you to remove the blades to clean it. That's a drag.Smoothie #2 involved some bigger chunks of frozen peaches that never got blended.

Save your $50, and buy something else. I think I'll send this one back.
