(More customer reviews)Simply put, the best blender out there for under fifty bucks.I tried Hamilton Beach, Oster, and various "dedicated" smoothie makers, but this Black and Decker model is the only one that stood up for any length of time to the daily challenge of confronting and defeating the enemy--miniature blocks of ice.The motor seems indestructible, and the touch pad is an inspired feature--as goof-proof as it is goop-proof.My B&D would still be cruising the icy seas if I hadn't broken the jar.
Black & Decker had withdrawn this model from circulation due to problems with the blade, and I'm only too relieved to see it's about to make a comeback.I'm pre-ordering this one.
(I'm frankly amazed to see the complaints from other users. When crushing ice, be sure to depress the ice-crushing button for several seconds before selecting one of the constant speeds. And don't try crushing a solid block of ice after removing the jar from the freezer!I've crushed ice cubes daily for over a year with this machine, and the motor shows no signs of tiring. The only problem I've had is with one of the rubber feet coming loose.)
[Update:O.K., the motor burned out after 18 months' use.But anyone's who's an experienced, regular smoothie maker, using 12 or more ice cubes at a time, will tell you that beats the averages.I'm reordering the identical model.]
